Hours of waiting in vain for thousands of Romanians who wanted to vote | photo-reportage

On May 26th, 2019, Romanians from all over the world had to vote for the European Parliament elections. Thousands of Romanians living abroad have waited for hours at endless queues to exercise their right to vote. I took these photographs at the polling station in Harrow, London, where the doors were closed 45 minutes earlier. The Romanians have been waiting even for 9 hours and didn’t get to vote.

[RO] Pe 26 mai 2019 românii din toată lumea au mers să voteze la alegerile europarlamenare. Mii de români care locuiesc în afara țării au așteptat ore întregi la cozi pentru a vota. Am făcut aceste fotografii la secția de votare din Harrow, Londra, acolo unde ușile clădirii în care se afla secția de votare s-au închis cu 45 de minute mai devreme. Românii au așteptat chiar și 9 ore și nici măcar nu au apucat să voteze.

I am interested in migration and cultural identity of Romanians based in London. The latest statistics prove that Romanian people are the second biggest migrant community from the United Kingdom.

This project shows a contrast within a Romanian couple which faces the uncertainty of belonging and whose future is unpredictable because of Brexit.
